Hangzhou
is one of China’s largest cities (8th) and only a couple hours south of
Shanghai

There

Hangzhou
is famous for its green tea

Ellis
Hall, normally one of our male lead vocalists, did a great job filling in
behind the drums

Chinese
Natives often performed on the main stage

The
main stage sat right on the shore of beautiful West Lake

West
Lake is considered a treasure by the Chinese people and is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site

For
the festival there were numerous stages around the city with the main stage
being right on the lake

Our
show featured about 40% Chinese songs, 20% originals and 40% cover songs

We
changed up the set daily and eventually developed an “A list” that was used
on the bigger shows

We
had four Americans able to sing in Chinese (Mandarin or Tai) and Jenny also
sang in Japanese

As
for cover songs, “Phantom of the Opera” was the most popular.

Elex
(Danielle Tambellini) joined us on stage and also opened the shows with her
own set

We
normally did about 6 Chinese songs but had double that number to choose from

Above
the band is on a morning cruise of West Lake

The
most famous restaurant in Hangzhou, Lou Wai Lou. Serving emperors and
presidents for 150 years!

Chinese
president Hu Jintao dines at Lou Wai Lou and there is normally a two week
waiting list

Morning

After
the show

L
to R: Elex, Kylie, Ellis and Jenny at a Hangzhou night club

On
this trip, like all in China previously, we got the rock star treatment

The
weather in Hangzhou is very similar to Southern California

One
downer which we always face in China is that people can smoke in the hotel
and restaurants

We
opened each show with “Hello” although the crowd probably didn’t know the
tune

You'll
likely twist and shout if you eat these Beetles

My
they look tempting

The
majority of our 10 shows were at West Lake on the main stage
